I purchased this Jeep
Cherokee from a dealer in Muskegon Michigan. He told me that it ran good.
I did not even make it two miles before it overheated. The motor was severally
cooked before I had it. When I took it apart the pistons had no tops from
running a extended period on leaned out mixture of antifreeze.
At that time it was extremely hard to find a good 4 liter in the bone yards. I located on with super high mileage, and installed it at my parents. The motor ran great. The more that I looked at the Jeep the more I realized that this was one abused truck. Mud was in and out of everything. One running I took it for a drive and it was shaking like a wet dog. I was really bummed until I thought that it might have mud cake on the rims. A hand behind the rim brought back a crusty handful of mud and grass. I got out the hose and the problem was solved. The Limited had great seats and rode well on the highway. I drove it to college in Iowa..700 miles in two sittings. Once on the way back to Iowa, the transfer case started acting up. The chain was shot, and the forks that held the main gear in place was totally warn out. Lucky for me, a childhood friend of mine lived a few miles away and we took the Jeep to his house. We welded a pipe (yes a plumping pipe) in to hold the gear in place. We got to Iowa and I began to look for a transfer case. No luck on finding a transfer case, but then when I thought I might have to buy a new one, a local drunk totaled his Jeep. I was able to purchase it and the jeep was back up to speed. We drove the Jeep all the way to Key West Florida for New Years 2000. I sold the Cherokee to a very nice guy in Michigan.
